It’s the end of the month and time for another segment of my monthly Wrap Up. This is where I open up about running my business [yes, writing is a business] and let you have a sneak peak into the dirty details of a Romance author’s career. I’m covering which projects I’m working on, any set backs or opportunities that come my way, the truth about submissions, and more.
My Main Project: Branding
This month I made it a goal to finish all the guest posts I had in mind and had pitched to other bloggers and communities. It was a grand plan. I had all month to write and research, even turn them in.
My wonderful critique partners had my newest romantic suspense back to me within a week. I couldn’t believe it. They are amazing. And, of course, I just couldn’t stop myself from taking a look at their suggestions and starting on revisions.
So the guest posts got pushed to the back of my mind. Out of the six I had planned on writing and submitting, I turned in two this month. But, hey, life (and other projects) happen and I can’t beat myself up about it. They’ll get done. Sooner or later…
My Secondary Project: Writing Category Romance
My full-length romantic suspense, Desolation, actually wasn’t supposed to be a project this month at all, but, as I said above, life and other projects happen. I’m actually making some really good decisions when it comes to revisions on this project. I’m conforming to the line I have hopes it’ll contract in, yet I’m happy about the changes I’m making.
I learned more than I ever thought I could about writing romance over the past year alone with rewriting Her Fallen Protector, and I know this book, when it’s contracted and released, will be amazing and set my career on the path I want it to be.
I’m not as rushed to get these revisions done right now, but I’m hoping by June I’ll be able to submit with confidence.
I haven’t had a lot of motivation for reading lately, not even for my own research, but I can take these books off my TBR pile for April:
I plan on spending May working steadily on Desolation and my guest posts. However, once those are out of the way, I’ll be diving into His Seductive Target, the next Afterlife book.
Then again, life (and other projects) happen! So we’ll just take it one day at a time.
