It’s officially the middle of the year and I’m busier than ever. All the hard work and time I’ve put into my business for the last six months is beginning to pay off. Every day I learn something new about myself, my business, and my craft, and it’s finally all coming together.
This month I felt like I accomplished some of the goals I set out to conquer. I’m on schedule for projects and have made some huge adjustments to reach those goals faster. I just had to start thinking differently.
My Main Project: Writing Category Romance
I finished the draft of His Seductive Target last year right before major edits on Her Fallen Protector. There was so much I didn’t know about writing category romance at the time I finished, that now this book is getting a major rewrite. Not as bad as my last project, but close.
I attacked revisions with gusto the beginning of this month, but soon realized something wasn’t right in the first two chapters. So I started over until I got it right. The changes alter the plot and characters significantly, but my writer instinct says it’s all good.
I’ve sent the first three chapters off to my critique partner for her trusted opinion, but I’m still moving forward. At this point, I’m about half finished with the rewrite and going strong.
My Secondary Project: Branding
I finally finished the super secret guest post I’ve been working on for the last two months. Sorry, it’s still a secret, but I’ve submitted it to a fairly well-known Romance blog and now I wait to hear if they want the post or not. Just like the rest of my projects, the waiting sucks, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
I’m also working on a draft for my next guest post on Heroes and Heartbreakers, but am not really having any inspiration or luck thus far. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed blogging for them and will continue to do so, but my main project is taking up all my focus!
I’ve sparsely used YouTube over the last year, mostly to upload vlog interviews, Q&A segments [that will be coming back!], and such, but it’s time to get serious. If I want to spread my brand, I have to venture into the unknown and things I’m not very comfortable with. I’m horrible in front of the camera, but I’ve found I’m really excited about doing tutorials.
I have a tutorial coming up the second week of July on the blog, so you’ll have to let me know how I do.
One of these days, I’ll work on getting in front of the camera again. I’ve updated a few videos already [check ‘em out!] and I’ll work hard for the rest of the year to get a few more up there. Wish me luck.
I applied into the BlogHer Publishing Network so I can start spreading my reach to a whole new collection of readers. Everyone loves books, so I figured it’d be worth a shot.
My TBR Project
I actually got a lot of books read this month. I was quite impressed with myself as I haven’t really had a whole lots of time between revisions, blogging, and guest posts, but I’m making headway on some research and even some pleasure reading.
- Summer’s End by Danielle Steel
- Deathtrap by Dana Marton
- Manhunt by Tyler Anne Snell
- Deal with the Devil by Cynthia Eden
- Blamed by Edie Harris
This month was a lucky month in that everything I read turned out to be fantastic.
