Dear reader, I did something crazy.
I unpublished four books from my backlist recently because they no longer fit my brand and my current writing style, not to mention didn’t make me any money, but it was a huge decision. One I’m still happy with for the time being. If you’d like more detailed process of how it happened, which books were de-listed, and who inspired me to make the decision, head over to this blog post for details.
But that’s not it.
Recently I completed my very first Strengths for Writers course with Becca Syme, and boy, did my entire plan for this year go out the window (which seems to be the theme of this entire year for me).
During this course, I discovered my top five “strengths” I should be using to my advantage when it comes to my business, and the very first one? “Achiever.” Believe me, no one is surprised goal achieving and hustling is my top strength or what gives me energy on a daily basis, but this entire year I couldn’t focus for the life of me, which was supposed to be my third top strength.
I sat down with my coach one-on-one and discovered with my strengths, I’ve been holding myself back. Literally. I’ve been head down writing, but I’m not producing nearly as much as I could be according to my strengths due to lack of focus, more specifically I’m not earning as much as I could be with my top five strengths as I could be due to lack of focus.
So we developed a plan.
For the next two years, I’ll be writing TWO books at a time. One book in the morning then switching over to another in the afternoon.
Yeah, I know. It’s crazy, and amazing, and nerve-wracking, and exactly what I need to be doing right now if I want to reach my goals. I have a plan (which will probably go out the window at any moment) and I have the time, energy, and determination to write an entirely new series alongside working on my Intrigues.
I’m one month into this new process and can’t believe the fact I’ve already doubled my production from ~24,000/month to 50,000/month in new words. Those results right there are enough to feed my Achiever for days. Lol.
What I’m Working On
I’ve just turned in the third book to my Marshal Law series and have dived head first into the next one.
I’ll be honest, I wrote The Marshal’s Baby entirely in a quarantine-induced haze, but I’m really present and totally in love with this last book featuring the chief deputy of the Oregon Marshal division, Remington Barton. She’s one of my favorite heroines of all time and about to break the rules when it comes to one of the deputies under her command.
And remember above when I said I was working on two books at once? Yep, I’m also in the middle of drafting the first book in a brand new series that I’ll be announcing soon. It’s a total passion project I intend to start publishing Summer 2021, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Just know this one has a tortured hero, a reunited lovers (ex husband and wife), and a killer they have to work together to stop.
Catch up with me in next month’s reader letter!
