It’s the end of the month and time for another segment of my monthly Wrap Up. This is where I open up about running my business and let you have a sneak peak into the dirty details of a Romance author’s career. I’m covering which projects I’m working on, any set backs or opportunities that come my way, the truth about submissions, and more.
I’m a firm believer in accountability, which is why I’ve started detailing my goals for the next month and wrapping them up at the end. This helps me focus throughout the entire month, especially when I’m answering to my readership and not just myself. Shall we give it a try? For November, my goals included:
- Finally draft the free romantic suspense novella for my newsletter subscribers for 2017
- Take better care of myself
And for December, I’m setting out to:
- Edit and finalize the classes I’ve developed for Romance writers
- Revise and edit the free romantic suspense novella for newsletter subscribers
My Primary Project: Writing Category Romance
National Novel Writing Month is winding down in a few days. I had really high hopes for this year. With my success of writing a 70,000-word romantic suspense last year for NaNoWriMo, I was super prepared to write not one, but two, short stories for my newsletter subscribers. One a romantic suspense, one a paranormal romance.
I plotted every scene, I researched my characters to death, I even started writing the first chapter November 1. Everything was going really well…until it wasn’t.
Somewhere between the middle of chapter one into my heroine’s point of view, I felt like every word was being pulled out of me. I wasn’t in love with the banter between them, my heroine’s fatal flaw, or the plot in general. It felt…empty. And so I trashed all 2,000+ words I’d written and started over.
Fortunately, I’ve learned to recognize this instinct early on over the past year or so with a few failed projects. But now this book is moving much more smoothly. While I might not have it finished during National Novel Writing Month, I am writing and there will be a free short story for my readers to download early 2017.
For once in my life, I’m not editing ANYTHING!
If you haven’t visited the site in a while, you may have noticed I’ve added a Coming Soon page and I’ve added a couple new books.
The date is set for my next release. On February 7, 2016, Rules of Survival will be the introductory novella to my upcoming series, Blackhawk Security. This is the book I’m currently writing and gives readers a taste of what’s to come in this fast-paced, thrilling romantic suspense series.
The first full-length novel in the series, Rules in Blackmail, is currently on submission, but I wanted to introduce readers to the men and women of Blackhawk Security sooner rather than later.
The Blackhawk Security series is based around the members of Blackhawk Security, an elite group of ex-military men and women determined to protect those who can’t protect themselves and who find their lives and hearts in peril. Every member is on the front line of defense to protect their assignments, but there’s more at stake than saving lives. They must save their futures.
MY SECONDARY PROJECT: SELF-CARE
Doing yoga every night before bed is doing wonders. No pain in the mornings, no tossing and turning throughout the night, better sleep, more patience, less emotional reactions, self-love. I’m glad I started back up again. I still have a ways to go to get back the strength I had last year before my injury, but yoga is a journey. Not a destination.
As for running that is more of a supplement to yoga right now, although a lot of athletes are the other way around. Running for me right now is to keep strengthening my injured foot rather than keep in shape or lose weight. Because I took the last six months off from exercising–at all–there is a lot of progress to be made, but I’m feeling good about it at the moment.
MY TBR PROJECT
Not a whole lot of reading this month, but the books I did pick up were fan-freaking-tastic.
- Taken by Cynthia Eden (You can read my first look for Heroes and Heartbreakers soon)
- Navy Seal Six Pack by Elle James
That’s it for this month’s Wrap Up! I thoroughly enjoy giving you a sneak peak into the life a Romance author. If there’s something you’d like to see in these wrap ups or if you have any questions, please let me know. I love talking with you, especially about upcoming books, my writing process, and what I’m reading. Until next month!
